| ... about my family members... I love them to death, but they're weird. Now, I'm not saying that I'm not... but it seems like there are very few things that are as I expect when I come to see them. That said, I'm glad I'm here this week is a rare opportunity to actually get to spend time with these people.
Also, I spent a good portion of this morning paging through my old posts and the comments left on them. It made me want to post again. This does mean that this is a cheap attempt to get people to comment :). (Haha, my Dad reclined his chair and fell asleep in I swear... 30 sec. Now I'm watching the cooking show he had on) I do enjoy reading comments... It's actually why I'm posting again... because my last post got a comment!
So let the irrelevance commence anew!

| So, it's been a while... I say that a lot here.. guess I can't get into blogging... but it's only 8:30 and I really have NOTHING better to do. I guess the biggest thing I could mention is that even though I've not posted about any of it, I've been having (mostly) a lot of fun this year. After teaching in a classroom for a year, I decided to run off and start a career in training... only 3 or so years earlier than I would have ever anticipated. I like the work, but like so many cliched stories, am not a huge fan of most of my coworkers. I get to travel a lot and meet very interesting people at outpatient surgery centers. It's made me to be pretty mobile feeling, so I've began contemplating a move... seems like a relatively easy task given that a job search would not be part of the transition. I have some destinations in mind.. but am far from a decision.
Part of the fun this year has been the students who have been thanking me for the work I've done with them... it's good to hear that you're missed at a school you only taught at for one year! I also have a student from Sylvan who tells me that he uses the notes he took with me to tutor other students!
Anyway... there's my annual update... maybe I'll be more frequent again, but then again... maybe not, time will tell!

| So... what to say? I've been at the teaching job in Stillwater for just over 4 months, and it's not all bad. I honestly think that if (if?) my plans don't pan out and I'm still in MN next year, I'd have a really good year there. The provious math teacher was a PhD/Scientist by trade, not an educator. As a result, amid the fact that I have 5 enitrely different classes to prep every day, a lot of the curriculum isn't whole. It might not be all that long before I run head-on into having 5 worksheets to make each day (the school doesn't use text books or assign homework). Anyway... I am planning to be out of this state by the end of summer. Depending on where I find a job, I'll relocate to FL, Chicago or back to northern IN. So I'm trying to decide when to tell my Principal that I wasn't kidding when I said I'd probably only be committing to a year at the school. He didn't believe me and I think he's still plannign on 3-5 years out of me. I just don't think I can do it. In other news: Christmas and New Year's were fun! I stayed sober and got to watch someone else get drunk and TOTALLY upset because his girlfriend wasn't impressed with the idea of going to see the ball drop in New York 'someday'. Wow... I found out that 2 hrs later he was crying over it. Ruth and I also got to own up on lego star wars which was a ton of fun... and although the invincibility block helped us to keep our studs... there's a decidedly fun aspect to 'accidentally' beating up on each others' lego people... a lot of 'oops', 'sorry', and 'i swear i didn't mean to do that'. I hadn't played that game for a really long time... it was fun. Enough of the rambling... I think I'm done here. | | |
| So, I had started telling people on an individual basis... but this seems like it'd be faster... I finally got a new job!! I'll be teaching at a charter school in Stillwater, MN. I'll be splitting the math teaching responsibilities with another teacher and have some time assigned during my day to do curriculum design!!! OH YEAH!!!! That's in addittion to my prep hour. It's also cool because my day ends with enough time to be at Sylvan still for a little while in the evennings!! Yessssss..... Consider yoruselves NOTIFIED.... | | |
| I keep visitting Xaga and thinking, "Should I write?" Well, today I am and really, a lot has happenned since my last real update. I ended up being miserable in the position I accepted at Sylvan, and one day I realized that I was starting to take it out on the people around me. So it was with great relief that I stepped down from that position and now I am seeking a new employ. Since my last update, I have gone on a cruise, made up a lame excuse to go to FL for a weekend, and visitted my brother and his wife for an open house. Other than that, it's been pretty normal.... you all haven't missed much. I just read this all over.. and it sounds as lazy as I feel right now. Lame. On a brighter note, I've dramatically decreased my caffeine/sugar intake as of this week, and it's going well. I almost don't have headaches everyday now... but the beginning of the week was aweful :) | | |
